135. Aligning Gates

with Jeremy Westcott

We have seen that God is on the inside of us, and that we want to allow Him to flood our whole being with glory so that we overflow to transform the world around us.

Yesterday we looked at each of the gateways in our spirit through which He wants to flow. Tomorrow we will look at those in our soul, but today’s post is a little unusual…

One of the things we have found really useful here in Freedom Church is to make a rotating cardboard cutout of Ian Clayton‘s ‘gateways’ diagram. Then we can line up different combinations of gates and ask Jesus to stand with us in them and show us how the river of life should flow through that particular combination.

To make one, you need to print off four copies of the gateways diagram – or you can use the ‘new colours’ version – onto thin card (you can print it on paper and stick it to card if that is simpler). Then cut them out as in the diagram below, so that you have four different sized circles.

Make a small hole in the centre of all four circles. Finally, fasten them together in order, face up, with the largest on the bottom and the smallest on top, using a split-pin type paperclip pushed through from the top..

In this example, you can see the first love, faith, imagination, and sight gates are aligned from the centre to the left. You will be able to spin each wheel separately to line up any combination of gates as a visual prompt as you work through them.

  1. This really does help. As soon as I started you using it sparked my own imagination in visualizing personal gates. I wonder, is there a particular order to these gates in which we should clean them?

    • Generally I would say, work from the inside out, starting with the gate of first love and going on through the spirit, soul and body gates. As to the particular order for these, I found it best to ask Jesus ‘which gate are we working on today?’. For those who don’t yet hear clearly, you can certainly work through them methodically, but be willing to let Him prompt you to step out of the sequence if He wants.
      Jeremy.

  2. As always, Mike, thank you so much for taking the time to blog these wonderful insights. I had been a bit confused as to how I should implement them. You clear things up so wonderfully.
